Preparation of Teaching Materials
The materials that are used for teaching a child how to read are quite simple to make. All of the materials will need to be prepared over white rigid cardboard in order to withstand the treatment they will be receiving which is not necessarily always delicate. You will need a good stash of white cardboard that will need to be cut into 4 X 24 inches. If possible, you can already get them cut in the size that you deem convenient.

This will save you a good amount of time in cutting them and will give you more time to write words. You will also need a good big red marker. You should
look for the ones that have thick points. The thicker the marker the better. Then write in a strip of white cardboard each of the words you are planning on teaching for the reading process. The letters you write should be of three inches in height. Write with lower case handwriting, except in the cases of proper names that are, as we all know, capitalized. In the rest of the cases, you will always need to write in lower case letters given that this is the way the words appear in the test of books. Make sure that the letters of the words are very thick. The lines should have half an inch in thickness or more. This type of intensity is important so that the child is able to see the word very easily. Make sure you also write with very clear and clean handwriting. Use loose words like those that are used in print, do not use cursive handwriting. Try to center the word in the card leaving an edge of half an inch around the word. That way you will have enough space to hold on to the card without covering a part of the word.
