Stimulating a Baby’s Brain with Sounds
Little by little, your child will learn to distinguish certain sounds by ear: like a door opening and closing, the sound of the keys, an object falling, running water etc. Obviously each one of these sources is possible to recognize thanks to the qualities of the sounds. Since hearing and sounds are intimately related, the baby will regulate his or her voice starting from what he or she has heard, you will need to help the child in this process so that afterwards the child is able to talk. Since in this period your child does not imitate another person but enjoys imitating himself, a lot of times you will see that the baby even forces out new sounds on his own. Some things you can do with your child in order
|
to reinforce his listening skills are:
- Talk to him from different places and distances so he will look for you.
- Sing to the baby, diminishing little by little the tone of voice. This will favor the baby’s attention span.
- Sing and dance to him or her. You will see that as he or she grows the child will try to copy you.
- Tell him short stories, using different tones of voice. If you invent them, even better yet, that way you will be able to use words that you are teaching him or her and that you want them to learn.
- Repeat the sounds that he does, as if you were a mirror.
- Use baby songs to play with the body of the baby.
- Emit a soft sound while you hug the baby.
- Touch the baby’s body to the beat of a sound.
- Help him to follow the rhythm of a song as if he or she was clapping with their feet.
- Sing using one syllable, such as La, Ta, Ba etc.
