Suspending Birth Control
How soon can a woman become pregnant after having stopped using the pill? This highly depends on what type of natal care you use. The things that would avoid it are using, condoms, diaphragms, and spermicides which are useful only while they are being used; once you stop using them, you are automatically fertile again. Medications that are based on hormones, such as the pill, take a lot longer to “enter into the system”. It is possible that you will ovulate a short time after having stopped taking the pill, perhaps in weeks or even in a few days. On the other hand, to renew the ovulation cycles after having suspended Depo-Provera can take up to months or even a year.

We don’t know of any absolute rule of how much time you should wait to become pregnant after having taken birth control pills. As a matter a fact, you can try immediately afterwards. However if you have not gone by to your normal cycles, it is possible that you are not ovulating every month, and it could be more difficult to establish sexual relations in order to get pregnant. If you become pregnant while your cycles are not regular, it can also be difficult to know exactly what day you got pregnant, and therefore, know when the most likely delivery date would be.
If you use an intrauterine device, you can get pregnant as soon as you remove it. There are times when a woman becomes pregnant even when she still has the device in her. if this happens the doctor might choose to take it out. Becoming pregnant with it still on increases the risk of abortion, a pregnancy that stays trapped inside the fallopian tubes, or a premature birth.
