When a Child’s Teeth Starts To Grow and Learning to Chew
When a Child’s Teeth Starts To Grow
Generally the pediatrician suggests to feed a child semi chopped foods when the child is nine or ten months of age. However, this depends on each pediatrician, and of course, on how the child adapts to these types of foods. It is a difficult period, as children tend to become irritable due to the pain caused by their teeth that are growing. But in many cases giving the child something solid in which the child can sink his or her teeth into can help to relieve the pain.
In these cases, it is convenient to give the child something they can put into their mouths. If it is a piece of bread or a cookie, make sure to be very careful as a child can easily choke on these.
Learning to Chew
Learning how to chew is difficult for some children. Once again, it will be necessary to be very patient and be very careful the child does not choke. On the other hand, it is also important to be consistent and not go back to mashed foods again. Sometimes it seems that a child has not eaten enough since half of the food has been spread out on the plate or ends up on the ground and it is difficult to know exactly how much a child has actually eaten. But it is not a matter of giving up. Little by little the child will get used to it.
There are some children on the other hand that get used to solid foods very easily. Keep in mind that in order to strengthen the gums there is nothing better than chewing well, which is also important for proper digestion. When a child begins to chew, since they don’t exactly know how to do this, they sometimes swallow entire pieces of food and this is the way it leaves their body as well.
Prepared Foods
Today there are many people that prefer to buy already prepared foods than make them for their children. The companies that make these foods guarantee they are compensated and balanced. Usually this is true, although there are many types and qualities of products. These types of foods tend to have very similar flavors, as well as softened textures and will not be able to replace the food that is home made and made specifically for the child. These types of foods are actually adequate only for concrete moments in which for example a person did not have the time to prepare the baby’s food or when going out on an excursion or when eating out etc.
There is nothing wrong with keeping home made prepared foods in the freezer to then defrost them later in the microwave. These appliances, besides being excellent for mashing, should be your allies in the kitchen so that your baby’s food turns out to be healthy, balanced and varied.
